I sat back and tried to figure out how I could explain how I picture my life.
I know a lot of people use the saying "outside of the box" but I don't see myself inside a box at all (where there is usually just one opening to what is outside).
I thought this picture was perfect because there are so many different ways to experience life and situations that can take you outside of your comfort zone and to experience new things and open up new paths.
I picture my life, my experiences, what I am comfortable with .....all inside this room and there are multiple doors leading to other opportunities and ways to expand myself and once that door has been opened that new part of me flows in.
I am an introvert, but a big part of me wants to push myself further and be more and show people that just because I can be quiet and like to be alone, there is also this strong, adventurous, driven, successful, fun person that they do not see right away.
For the people that have been following my blog; you know that my business is branding and graphic design. For a few years I ran my business on the side of my day job and it took me such a long time to convince myself to go all in and take charge of my life and the dream to build my business to the point I wanted it to be.
I have only officially quit my day job and taken on my graphic business full time 4 months ago. I am so happy I did and I wished I had done this a lot sooner. I needed to overcome my fear of the unknown and how it would go and break through that door of opportunity to see what can flow in and come of it. It has been an amazing experience, and my business is growing more than I expected by this time.
A lot of the time, there are blocks that we must overcome to really push ourselves forward and take those leaps through these doors.
Are you worried about what others think?
Is there a fear lingering from a previous experience?
Fear of the unknown (as was my issue before)?
Will you have to do this alone?
These doors can be for big decisions, small experiences, life experiences, or business growth. But every part of it and every door you open can lead to something else.
Some examples of different things I've done when I decided to take up the challenge to push myself and do something that scares me:
- I hate public speaking; so I signed myself up to speak at a few networking groups.
- I'm scared of heights; but I went jumping off a 52storey gorge in South Africa and I loved it!
- I dread speaking on the phone; I try and meet new people and schedule calls every week if I can.
** not going to lie on this one I still hate it, but I'm working on getting better **
- I went shark cage diving.
- I was worried about going into business and stopping a constant paycheck because I had 2 kids at home to help support. Now I feel it was the best decision I could have made and am not looking back.
.......as you can see there are personal and business experiences, small and large and these are just a few. Doing these things, makes me feel alive; I'm happy i had these experiences and they help me grow and learn every day.
I hope to continue to challenge myself and do things that scare me or are outside of my comfort zone and keep filling my room with more and more growth, knowledge, and experiences throughout my life.
What do you do to challenge yourself? Can you see certain blocks that are preventing you from getting as far as you can go?
