Currently, branding myself is something I am still in the process of doing; I haven't figured it all out yet and won't pretend that I have.
For myself; I have my own graphic business. I can do all I want with my graphics/logo/colours and so on; but what do I have to offer that's completely different because there are many graphic designers and businesses out there?
That is the first reason why I created this blog. This is me; just me. I will tell you what I think, how I think things are and am open for discussions about all of it because unless it is factual; it is just my opinion or experiences that have brought me to think the way I do.
I, for the most part, keep my graphic business page mostly just business topics and post things that business owners/entrepreneurs can learn from; but I know I have a lot more to offer than that. I wanted a space where I can connect with people on a more casual level and grow and learn things together and share my knowledge and advice.
So what do I mean when I say you should brand yourself?
I will give you the first example that comes to mind. If you sell products for a company; why does it matter who I buy from? No matter who I go through; I will get the same results in the end (the cost and product delivered to me).
Now I'm not saying you have to create two separate sites/pages like I did; this is just how I decided to go about it; but what you do need to do is start adding a bit of "you" into what is promoted. Let people get a peek at your personality, who you are, what you care about. You don't need to get really personal; but don't talk "right from the book".
Here are some reasons why:
1. People will trust you. If somebody does not know you; they want to know something about you to a certain point to see if they want to take that leap of faith.
2. Your name will start to be recognised; not just your business name. You want people to work with YOU because you are a huge part of your business!
If somebody recognises your business brand/name then that's great. But you want them to remember your personal name/brand also, and that you are associated with that business.
3. When you brand yourself; you become an important connection/or asset to somebody. The services you offer behind your brand or the products you sell are the set of skills or bonuses that come with you.
Do you have a team of people that you lead? Does your team have a name to it. Brand your team; make everyone think "Wow look at this; I want to be a part of this amazing group of people". Get people to recognise that success and energy you have and that bond of your team. When people see that; I'm sure that will inspire people to want to join in or be a part of it somehow; opposed to somebody who is just pushing their products and services. There's no trust factor there.
If you don't have a team; YOU are the brand. There's something special and unique in all of us and the world will open up to that.
I would not start a conversation with somebody and bring up my business first because nobody wants to be sold to before you even talk; I am introducing myself and getting to know that person because I am my business!
What are your thoughts on this topic?
Do you brand yourself; or let people get to know who you are before you get into your products and services?
Try to create real relationships and connections with people! I've said this before; but there is so much we can learn from each other, so why not support and motivate each other on our journeys! You never know who you can meet!
