Now that I’ve started a family and moved out of the big city where I felt a good job security, I’ve grown to the point where I have a vision of where I actually want to go and where I want to be in life. I found myself seeking other people’s experiences to give me that boost that I was looking for. Looking up to people who are successful I believe is a good thing; there is always something you can learn from others around you.
The book “You are a Badass – by Jen Sincero” was a book that I finished about a month ago and will be reading it again. There are challenges she provides you with in the book that you can do as well to help you get the most out of the experience and help yourself get past a block or rut you are in.
This time I did not do the exercises because I wanted to read it first and then go in more depth my second time around.
This book provides you with very blunt advice and humour to go with it. She keeps you interested so you want to read more and provides you with inspiring stories to get you wanting to make a change now!
I must say, without even doing these exercises this time around; I believe this book was a part in pushing me over the edge to want to make a change in my life that I had been holding onto for too long. I put that change into action, and although it was and is scary; I know I’ve got this!
Jen also talks about Money “Mental” blocks. I realised from reading this book that this is 100% me! I have a bad relationship with money and I think it stemmed from seeing my parents always struggling and since I was a child I had this idea in my head that money wasn’t available to me, I am not meant to be comfortable in my life and not have this worry. I need to push past this mental block and believe that I am the one that determines where I go and how far I go in life and I just need to put my mind in line with what I want and desire and who I want to be.
Here are a few highlighted quotes that I enjoyed and hit something personal for me:
“Going out into the world and trying, yet still deep down believing that you’re ruled by your past circumstances, is like forgiving someone but still hoping they sit in something wet.”
“If you’re serious about changing your life, you’ll find a way. If you’re not, you’ll find an excuse.”
“Never apologize for who you are. It lets the whole world down.”
All in all, because I haven’t read many books like this one, I can’t say it is the best/my favourite book to get your life in gear, but I would recommend you read it at least once. Who knows….maybe you can get what you need to make YOU better and get that confidence you need and have inside.
What are your favourite books for self-help, motivation or any other book that you believe can help with running your business and being your Bad*ss self?
I am always up for recommendations so feel free to share with the group.
