Where is my life going? I want to do more than this? I know I am capable of so much more!
The thing is, your job is a HUGE part of your life. What you do each week and who you do it with needs to be important to you.
If it isn't; then re-evaluate what you are doing and work towards being in a happier place and where you want to be.
I know you may think; I have time or I will do it later. Why not now?
I understand under certain circumstances and set-backs in life happen and that may be a reason. But even making a plan towards you goal is a start. Maybe you can make small steps towards where you really want to be. Make a move today!
Few ways of knowing you've found the right career/job:
1. You don't get the Sunday blues:
If all you can think about all weekend (especially Sunday) is how much you are dreading Monday coming, that is not a good sign. Of course we all enjoy our weekends as it is our personal time; and that's normal. What I mean is if you can't wait for the week to be over and you experience anxiety all weekend because Monday will come again, you are not going to enjoy yourself, even on your personal time.
If this is how you are feeling, you are basically wishing your weeks and months away. Don't wish your whole life away, see if there is a way to make a change and work towards that. We all deserve that.
2. You are a bit scared at your job:
Are you worried about how you are doing at your job?
I think this means you are in the right job! You are worried about how you are performing because you want to do well., you want to succeed and learn and are passionate and care about the tasks you are given.
If you don't worry about this in your job; wouldn't that mean that you are uninspired to try harder? Being a bit worried will make you strive to do better. If this isn't the case you would be bored and won't be challenged. If you aren't challenged, you will quickly lose all drive to want to be better.
3. You talk about your job often:
Do you think and talk about your job when you are off the clock?
For myself being a graphic designer for example; even when I am not working on anything I will look all around me at shapes, colours and see how they fit together to create different looks.
How does this graphic make me feel? When I'm in a store or mall I admire certain ways things are put together and think to myself how I would make it better; or how that would work well with "___".
I learn from things around me and have the drive to want to learn and see what is out there. I also enjoy talking to people about what I did this week or what I am going to work on.
That is how I know I love what I do. Like I said before; your job is such a big part of your life, be proud of what you do....no matter what it is. If you are not proud, talk to people, research and figure out what you truly want to do and where you want to be, so you too, can feel this way!
4. You do not mind putting in the extra time or effort:
Do you mind putting in a little extra to get something accomplished, or stay to help out; even if its not an instant financial benefit to you?
What I mean by this is if you are given or come across a hard task; are you up for the challenge? Do you plunge forward and really dig in to try and get it done, or do you back out and pretend it has nothing to do with you?
If you realise that all of this effort is towards a bigger picture; maybe a future promotion, growth for the company and being proud that you helped with it, or maybe just growing your knowledge. If you want to be a part of this and are proud of your accomplishments and getting through these hard tasks, I think you've found the right job.
Of course these are just a few points; but these are at the top of my list.
But, please don't think that if you have the "perfect job" it will always be smooth sailing. Every job has its ups and downs; some days we just aren't dealing well for many reasons.
What I am getting at with this post is that; if you are feeling down every day, every week with your job and you dread every week and have anxiety all weekend about Monday coming; it may not be the right fit for you and you should work toward changing that.
Nobody wants to live their lives miserable and wishing it away. Making a change today; can change your future for the better. Surround yourself with people that challenge you; talk it out and make a plan!
What makes you know you are in the right job/career? If you know you are not, what are you doing today to change that?
